The government of Indonesia has set a plan to realign the Flight Information Regions (FIR) in the airspace above the Riau and Natuna islands which is currently managed by Singapore. To realize the plan, all stakeholders in Indonesia need to cooperate and get ready to manage our own territory. In relation to this, Indonesia must comply with technical requirements in accordance with ICAO provisions to serve flight navigation in those airspaces.
The above matters were covered in a seminar of “Flight Information Region Boundary Changes: What Indonesia should Prepare” held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesia Law Society in Jakarta (13/6). Attended by more than 100 delegates from regulators, practitioners in aviation and law, and academia, the purpose of the seminar was to provide a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s regulations, procedures, requirements and readiness to realign the flight navigation services in the airspace of the Natuna Islands.
