Dentons HPRP successfully assisted Shandong Xinhai Technology Co. Ltd. (“Shandong”) the largest ferronickel company in China, in its cooperation with PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (“Antam”). The two companies will collaborate to build a nickel smelter in Gag Island, Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia. As reported by national publications, the project is worth USD 1.2 billion or around IDR 17.36 trillion and is projected to produce 400,000 tons of ferronickel annually with 10% - 12% nickel content and 600,000 tons annual production of stainless steel. The Head of Agreement (HOA) between the two companies, in which Dentons HPRP assisted Shandong, was signed in May 2019.
Shandong Xinhai Technology Co. Ltd. is a private company in China that produces around 500,000 tons of nickel alloy per year, and has produced two million tons of stainless steel in a city in China. PT Aneka Tambang Tbk is a state-owned company which undertakes wide activities from exploration, excavation, and processing through to marketing of nickel ore, ferronickel, gold, silver, bauxite and coal.
