The Government of the Republic of Indonesia (“GOI”) has set a Net Zero Emission target for 2060. One of the industries highlighted to help reduce emissions is the petrochemical industry, which provides almost all of the raw materials for downstream industries such as the plastic, textile, paint, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries, through a production process that utilizes energy. This industry plays a significant role in efforts to achieve zero carbon emissions as a determinant of success in achieving the zero carbon emissions target stated in the Paris Climate Agreement.

The Ministry of Industry (“MOI”) has also included the petrochemical industry as a green industry whereby the production process should make efforts towards an efficient and effective use of resources in a sustainable manner, with sustainable consumption, and in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
